From Thomson regarding Micromedex:

"In response to the recent outbreak of Swine Influenza (H1N1), Thomson Reuters has updated the MICROMEDEX drug, disease, and patient education content to reflect the most recent CDC guidelines published on 4/27/09.

The MICROMEDEX content already includes detailed information on the treatment of influenza. We continue to closely monitor the guidelines provided by the CDC specific to the swine influenza outbreak and will update this information accordingly."

"The Dietary Supplements Labels Database offers information about ingredients in more than 3,000 selected brands of dietary supplements. Ingredients of dietary supplements in this database are linked to other National Library of Medicine databases such as MedlinePlus and PubMed to allow users to understand the characteristics of ingredients and view the results of research pertaining to them, including the following characteristics:
  • Uses in humans
  • Adverse effects
  • Mechanism of action

The Database can be searched by brand names, uses noted on product labels, specific active ingredients, and manufacturers."

RefWorks Training


Swilley Library provides you with access to RefWorks, an "online research management, writing and collaboration tool designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies."

Similar to EndNotes, training for RefWorks will be held during three walk-in classes at Swilley Library in the Hendricks Classroom (downstairs).

"World's highest drug levels entering India stream"; rise of antibiotic bacterial resistance a concern

"Last year, The Associated Press reported that trace concentrations of pharmaceuticals had been found in drinking water provided to at least 46 million Americans. But the wastewater downstream from Indian plants contained 150 times the highest levels detected in the U.S."
